Youth Engagement Forum

The College successfully hosted and participated in the Melton City Council Youth Engagement Forum last Friday (30 April).

It was a fantastic opportunity for schools in the local area, including Staughton College, Melton Secondary College, Lakeview College and Kurrunjang College, to collaborate and discuss physical activity, mental wellbeing, and healthy eating.

The students were asked questions regarding the barriers and challenges that prevent healthy eating and participating in physical activity. They also expressed what they believed were the leading causes of mental wellbeing issues for young people and how these challenges could be overcome in the future.

We were fortunate to have Melton City councillors Bob Turner, Ashleigh Vandenberg, Lara Carli, Julie Shannon and Sophie Ramsey, spend the afternoon with us, listening to our students.

The council will use information from the forum to create its action plan for 2021 -2025.

When the plan is finalised, students will hear how their contributions have directly impacted health and wellbeing planning in Melton.

It was clear on Friday that our students have a lot to contribute and we congratulate them on speaking positively about issues they find important. They were excellent representatives of our College and played a meaningful role in shaping outcomes for young people in Melton.
