As our school year draws to a close, I invite you to ponder Sr Joan Chittester’s words:
"Time is a great teacher. It teaches us to forget what has nothing to do with today and to remember that, whatever happened yesterday, there is still a tomorrow enough to make it right.

So as Christmas approaches and as we draw family closer may we all find time to focus simply on the things that are most important to us. May we have the wisdom too, to be clear on what they are.
This week we celebrate the creative talents of our students through our celebration of the arts and technology.
Our VCE 2020 Folio Virtual Exhibition highlights the considerable talents of our students together with the outstanding mentoring and guidance of our gifted art and technology teachers.
While we could not hold an in-person exhibition, our online presentation highlights the passionate artistic and creative skills of our students. I wish to thank our Arts Domain Leader Mrs Amy Rowley for her leadership of the Virtual Exhibition and Mrs Cheryl Kohek for the hours of work undertaken in preparing for the online launch.
This week I also received a copy of the 2020 Shared Stories Anthology. Shared Stories is an annual publication of themed writing and artwork by primary and secondary students from 28 schools across Victoria.
The project has run for 15 years and provides aspiring artists with an opportunity to have their work published in a high-quality anthology. Each year a copy is catalogued in the National and State libraries.
Our contributions of both creative written pieces and artworks is a credit to our staff and students. Congratulations to all involved.
Our Deputy Principal of Staff Mr John Christie was acknowledged at the Catholic Teacher Education Consortium (CTEC) ACU meeting for placing the largest number of pre-service teachers.
Pre-service teachers who are in training from a university are an excellent addition to any College. They bring youth, enthusiasm and a desire to learn the vocation of teaching.
It is wonderful that despite the changes brought about by Distance Learning Mode, so many of our staff were willing to mentor a young teacher in training. Contributing to the knowledge and skills of our future teaching workforce is an essential role for all teachers.
Thanks to Mr Christie for his years of dedication to this role that requires considerable organisation and logistical coordination.

As I write this article, our VCE students are sitting the last VCAA exam, Religion and Society Unit 3 and 4, at the College.
It has been a busy three weeks with the exams delayed due to COVID-19. Our students have been exemplary in their approach, being on time, focused and prepared to enter the exam spaces.
Congratulations also to our VCE Coordinator Ms Carissa Lock and Year 12 Coordinator Mrs Karina Dunne for their preparation and support to ensure the exams ran smoothly. Students will receive their results on 30 December, and we will celebrate their achievements early next year.
Our Year 7 and 9 students attend camp this week. The camp program supports and extends our school curriculum, with many skills learnt often translating into the classroom. It is a valuable part of learning and teaching.
Year 8 students are completing their final week of the year with a creative and engaging extracurricular program.
Next week our teachers will complete curriculum planning for 2021. With the move to more online e-learning opportunities such as Stile for Science, Education Perfect for English and Languages and Edrolo for senior classes, the week will be used to upskill staff.
The Gadal Team will be introduced to EduStem, which provides Problem Based Learning (PBL). Year 9 2021 students will undertake PBL units in Humanities, Science and English with additional PBL units introduced in 2022.
It is an exciting and dynamic time for learning and teaching, as our staff continue to be life-long learners. We will continue to promote the learning taking place in the classroom in 2021 through the College Newsletter. I look forward to celebrating our students’ successes.
Our Year 10 and 11 students have now finished all classes and assessment, including their Jumpstart program for 2021. I hope all students enjoy their break and come back refreshed for a productive 2021 VCE/VCAL year.
Year 7 to 9 finish – Friday 4 December, 12.30pm
Year 9 students finished formal classes yesterday (30 November) and were involved in a Sports and Activity Day today. Tomorrow, students will begin their Gadal RITE Journey Farewell Camps until Friday 4 December. Special bus arrangements are being made for students who usually catch Bacchus Marsh Coach buses after school.
Year 7 students began their camps yesterday with the year level split over two nights. Students will take part in a special program from Thursday until their final day on Friday 4 December, which will conclude at 12.30pm.
Year 8 students will finish normal classes tomorrow (2 December). On Thursday they will participate in a year level sports day. Their final day program on Friday 4 December will conclude at 12.30pm.
On Friday 4 December, the two Bacchus Marsh Coach buses that only go to and from CRC Melton have been adjusted to depart at 12.30pm. These are the Darley and Underbank Services.
Other services that go from Melton to Bacchus Marsh via the Bacchus Marsh Grammar or Melton Secondary College will run to the normal school timetable on this day.
Attached below are the routes for these two services and other students may travel on them if suitable. A valid Myki is required.
Students will be accommodated at school until other buses arrive or parents may wish to make other arrangements for students to get home.
Town buses (SITA) will not pick up here after school. Parents are again encouraged to make other arrangements that use regular bus stops or arrange an earlier pick-up where possible.
Our new Year 7 students will begin the year with an Orientation Day on Friday 29 January. All Year 7 to 12 classes will begin on Monday 1 February.
Our annual school photos have been taken and are now ready to order.

Year 12 CRC Melton graduate Zoe has overcome many obstacles in the past two years and her story, told in her own words, has won a competition run by ABC Radio Melbourne.
Takeover Melbourne is a new initiative that creates a powerful platform for young Melburnians to be heard.
High school students (and those outside formal education of equivalent age) share a true story about an aspect of their life – in Zoe’s case, she focussed on living with Tourette syndrome. This condition affects the brain and nerves, causing people to make repeated movements and sounds, also known as motor and vocal tics.
Zoe has overcome significant hardships to prove to herself and others that when you put your mind to something and work hard, you can achieve your goals.
With a passion for directing, Zoe hopes to work in the film industry once her formal studies are complete. This year, she completed her VCE studies and has been committed to raising awareness about Tourettes and the challenges that she has faced.
In the hope of inspiring others, Zoe decided to enter the Takeover Melbourne competition. Her story is one of strength and resilience and illustrates the impact her condition has on her everyday life.
No matter how bad things have been for Zoe, she has proven to everyone that commitment and dedication does pay off in the long run, even when you think all the odds are against you.
We congratulate Zoe on her win and all that she has achieved, particularly in the last couple of years. She is an inspiration to us all and we wish her all the best for her future endeavours in the film industry.

Sheehan Stadium was once again alive with competition today when Year 9 students took part in a range of sports and activities today as part of their final week of the school year.
Basketball and volleyball were big drawcards in the stadium, with students competing enthusiastically for their houses. Rain forced an early end to the soccer matches but there was much fun to be had in the Alexandria Resource Centre where chess and board games were on offer. A game of Dungeons and Dragons was hosted in Osma and e-sports were also popular.
Our Year 9 cohort begin their RITE Journey Farewell Camp tomorrow.
A large role of the CRC Vocal Ensemble is participating in College masses which are held regularly throughout the year.
With restrictions on large gatherings and choir rehearsals due to COVID-19 this year, the ensemble found themselves preparing for virtual instead of live performances.
After the success of the first virtual performance of Let It Be, we were asked to prepare a second video for the College end of year mass.
Staff and students were asked to take part by preparing a recording of themselves performing Psalm 23 (I Am Not Alone), originally performed by People and Songs.
This piece uses text from Psalm 23 of the Book of Psalms, portraying God as our shepherd and His followers as His flock, whom he leads to safety and peace.
The inclusion of staff in the performance demonstrates the unity of the CRC Melton community throughout a trying year. We invite you to click below to enjoy this very special performance.
Our Year 8 students have just completed their final unit for 2020 on graphic novels.
Graphic novels are a type of text combining words and images - essentially a comic, however, they contain a complete narrative.
Students learned how to recognise and creatively apply the visual and written language devices specific to graphic novels. In their assessment, they developed a set of panels using their knowledge of the medium.

Students are encouraged to read for at least 10 minutes a day over the school holidays to set themselves up for a great start to the new school year.
Books will keep their brains active, help develop overall reading skills and foster a love of reading. To help families keep the momentum rolling over the holidays, students are encouraged to read their book-listed novels prior to returning to school.
In addition, the Alexandria Resource Centre offers a variety of reading material in eBook form via the ePlatform app. This can be accessed via SIMON under Student Links/INFINITI Library Platform. From here students can select an eBook to read on a device over the holiday period.

The Social Justice Team raised $100 for White Ribbon Australia last Wednesday by selling ribbons and lollypops during recess and lunchtime.
White Ribbon Australia is part of a global social movement working to eliminate gendered violence. It strives for an Australian society where all women and children are safe.
White Ribbon is the world’s largest movement engaging men and boys to end men’s violence against women and girls, promote gender equality and create new opportunities for men to build positive, healthy and respectful relationships.
Our Wishing Tree hampers have been finalised with staff and students of each homeroom putting in a fantastic effort.
We have had donations from Woodgrove Shopping Center and Vinnies Melton this year, which helped us pack the hampers full of goodies.
There will be some very joyful families in our community when the hampers are distributed.

The Vinnies No Interest Loans (NILs) initiative can help struggling families cover the cost of essential school items. A NILs loan has no interest, no fees, no charges, ever.
Every year, Vinnies helps parents and carers on low incomes (in particular those on Centrelink) to apply for a NILs loan of up to $1500 to cover the cost of essential school items such as uniforms, books, laptops, stationery, school camps, and musical instruments.
Loans are also available for other essentials such as washing machines, fridges, car repairs, medical and dental expenses.
A NILs loan is a safe, affordable alternative to high-interest payday loans or rent-to-buy leases. It is not a payday loan or a bank loan but a form of circular community credit. This means when a borrower makes a repayment to NILs, the funds are released to someone else in the community.
NILs is supported by not-for-profit Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand, with funding from the Australian Government in partnership with NAB.
