Catholic Regional College, Cobblebank

Catholic Education Melbourne is undertaking a preliminary planning and project feasibility concept for a future secondary college at Alfred Road, Cobblebank. Residential development in the broader Melton area continues to put enrolment pressure on Catholic secondary provision and, while there remains sufficient capacity at Melton CRC in the short term, a longer term solution is required to provide sufficient places for future Year 7 secondary demand. A local planning group was recently established to guide the process and provide input in this early stage. The local group will continue to provide significant input throughout the project.

Land for the future secondary college is purchased and the Alfred Road location is in close proximity to the future railway station, which is currently under construction, and is accessible to the future town centre and Melton City Council recreation reserves. There are challenges to provide servicing to the site but Catholic Education Melbourne continues to work with developers and other stakeholders to ensure the future site is serviced to allow for the new secondary college to open in 2023.

2020 Subject Selections

Years 10–12 2020 Subject Selections have closed and we are in the process of determining blockings and what subjects will operate in 2020. Families will receive confirmation of subjects this term.

Year 8 students and families please note that information and selection guides for their 2020 Year 9 electives will be distributed tonight at our Year 9, 2020 Information evening.

Parent-Student-Teacher Interviews

Parent-Student-Teacher Interviews will take place after school on Tuesday, 17th September between 4pm–7pm and Thursday, 19th September between 4pm–7pm. The interviews link to the Term 3 Interim Reports that will be available next week. Information on how to book interviews will be in next week’s newsletter.

End of Term

Friday, 20th September is the last day of Term 3. Normal classes will operate with the day finishing at 2:30pm. Bacchus Marsh Coaches buses will be available for early pickup however, local Sita Town buses will operate at normal times.

Respectful Relationship Student Voice Forum

On Thursday 22nd August, a group of student leaders attended the Respectful Relationship Student Voice Forum. The forum was attended by a group of schools in the Melton City Council area with a focus on building student leadership and voice in respectful relationships, which is key in creating positive environments for learning in schools. The conference focused on bystander action and the process of intervention, empowering students in decision making and leadership. Throughout the day students participated in a range of role plays and group discussions to plan and implement student action in improving positive bystander action in schools through the 4 model intervention. It was a great day for the students who hope to inspire others to enact change within the school.

Celebration Day

On Tuesday 3rd of September, CRC will be holding its annual Celebration Day. Students will begin the day with mass in the Sheehan Stadium before participating in a range of fun games and activities to help raise funds for our chosen charities.

Celebration Day is an annual event where we celebrate being part of the CRC Federation and acknowledge our faith by raising money for our chosen charities. This year the funds raised will be shared between;

• Brother Beausang; our sister school in Kenya
• Fight MND: established in 2014 with the purpose of finding effective treatments and ultimately a cure for Motor Neurone Disease
• RU OK: a suicide prevention charity that aims to start life-changing conversations and create a more connected world

From this week, early bird wristbands will be on sale for $10 at lunchtime to students outside the front of the library. They will then be on sale for $15 the week of Celebration Day and on Celebration Day from 10:30am-11:30am. These wristbands will entitle the students to unlimited rides, bubble soccer and laser tag.

This year we have four main attractions and rides:

• The Cha Cha - A carnival ride in which suspended riders spinning in cars experience centrifugal force, while spinning on two separate axes.
• The Meltdown - An inflatable mechanical wipeout game which challenges 8 contestants on their ability to jump and dodge the rotating arm.
• Bubble Soccer - Students wear a giant inflatable bubble as they compete in a game of soccer
• Laser Tag - Students participate in an outdoor game of laser tag. This revolutionary new non-gun laser tag system straps onto the wrist and allows quick and easy gaming anywhere.

Other activities include:

• Talent Show – Students showcase their talents and are in the chance to win one of 3 Woodgrove vouchers.
• Photobooth - Take a photo with a group of friends in our photo booth to remember the day.
• Dodgeball Competition - Junior and Senior house competitions will be held in the hall.
• Lan Party – The computer labs will be open for students to compete in a range of board, video and other games.

Students will receive a raffle ticket which entitles them to a free BBQ sausage or drink. Additional hot food and sweets will be available for purchase throughout the day including pizza, donuts and potato twisties. A full menu and prices will be released later this week.

We would like parents/guardians to be aware that some of the rides and activities may not be suitable for students with asthma, heart conditions, epilepsy, anxiety, vertigo and low blood pressure.

We look forward to celebrating this exciting day with all students next Tuesday and hope to raise in excess of $10,000 for our charities.

Year 9 Premier League

Tuesday 20th August saw our Year 9s play their final round of the Premier League season before finals. The Girls Volleyball team finished their season undefeated. Out of 8 teams we have 4 teams heading into the semi-finals. Congratulations to our Girls Volleyball, Girls Netball, Boys AFL and Boys Basketball. We wish the teams all the best during upcoming finals. Results from Round 5 vs Emmanuel are below:

Student News

Last week, Lucy Taylor (Year 9) was awarded the U15 Senior Netball Best & Fairest player in the whole Ballarat Football and Netball League. Lucy is co-captain of the U15 Seniors at Bacchus Marsh Cobras and also plays in our Year 9 Premier League team. Congratulations Lucy, we wish you well in all your future netball endeavours.

Senior Hockey Team

On Thursday 22nd August, Kaylee Jones and Claudia Russo had the pleasure of watching our Senior Hockey Team place third in the SACCSS Girls Hockey Competition. Thank you to the Years 10, 11 and 12 girls who displayed great sportsmanship, talent and enthusiasm. Well done girls on a successful day out.

This year our Father’s Day stall is being run by our very own Foundation VCAL classes. Students are welcome to come to G141 this Thursday at recess and lunchtime to purchase gifts for the special men in their life. We have a range of sweet treats, books, plants, ties, car wash items, pens, etc. Prices range between $1.00-$10.00 to suit a range of budgets. We hope to see you there.
